The Conversion/Redesign/Repurpose award celebrates the transformation of our showroom, located in Altrincham’s 1970s-era Grafton Centre. Formerly a vacant and neglected unit, the space has been expertly reimagined into a sophisticated and functional showroom that seamlessly blends luxury and practicality. This recognition underscores our dedication to repurposing existing structures with ingenuity while incorporating sustainable and modern elements.

Lakes Doors Architectural and Studio JMA Finalists in the Northern Design Awards 2024

We’re thrilled to announce that Lakes Doors Architectural has reached the finals of the 2024 Northern Design Awards! Our showroom has been recognised in the Conversion/Redesign/Repurpose category, an award dedicated to projects that breathe new life into existing structures with ground breaking creativity and purpose. We’re also excited that Studio JMA, the talented architects behind our showroom’s stunning design, has been named a finalist in the Retail Space category.

Our Journey to the Northern Design Awards
When we set out to create the new Lakes Doors Architectural showroom, we aimed to craft an immersive, luxurious environment that would redefine how customers and designers experience premium door and wall panelling systems. Our vision required a bold transformation of a 1970s concrete shell into a destination showroom, an inviting space for collaboration and inspiration. Studio JMA helped turn this vision into reality, designing a space that merges high-end product displays, client-centric zones, and hands-on product interaction into one seamless experience.

Bringing the Old Grafton Centre Unit to Life
The showroom occupies a large, street-facing unit within Altrincham’s Grafton Centre, which had long stood vacant. The transformation from an empty concrete box into a beautifully designed showroom was no small feat. In the Conversion/Redesign/Repurpose category, this award recognises projects that not only repurpose existing structures but also create an exciting, functional space from what was once an underutilised building. Our showroom combines luxurious finishes with an innovative layout that enhances the customer journey and adds an entirely new, visually striking element to the surrounding area.

A Unique Retail Experience
The Retail Space category, in which Studio JMA is a finalist, honours projects that inspire customers and make a lasting impact through design. Our showroom is designed to go beyond mere display; it’s a collaborative space where designers and clients can meet, assess our products in real-life settings, and have access to working versions of every door we offer. From hands-on samples to technology-driven lighting and sound systems, Studio JMA has brought the ultimate retail experience to life, creating a showroom that is truly one-of-a-kind in the UK.
